10th Grade - World History
Holocaust Artifacts Exhibit
My best work for this year in World History was the Holocaust Artifacts Exhibit. The purpose of the project was to learn more about the Holocaust during World War II. Groups were tasked to make a presentation that highlighted a specific theme within the Holocaust. My group chose the broad topic of Jewish Resistance, which allowed us to do research on many different events throughout the Holocaust. Initially, I had limited knowledge of the Holocaust, and I found it challenging to write insightful and meaningful paragraphs on the topic. However, with the extensive research and time spent refining our presentation, I gained a significant amount of knowledge and felt I grew because of my new understanding.
World History This Year
For me, this was one of my harder classes. But I still enjoyed the class and I think learning about history is important because it can broaden your mind.
This year I preferred Social Issues over World Cultures and Geography, and my favorite assignment during this class was the SIRP (Social Issues Research Project). I wrote about a topic that I hold dear to me, and I'm very proud of my work on my project. I chose how climate change affects access to the outdoors because nature is fundamental to me. I'm incredibly proud of this work because I struggled a lot with my writing at the beginning of the year, and after writing the SIRP, my writing skills were significantly advanced. Writing is also much more enjoyable now than it was to me before writing my SIRP. Another reason why this was also my favorite assignment was that we read a section from others' essays, and it was exciting to learn more about specific topics and surprising information about them. Overall, the SIRP helped me develop my writing skills, and while it was stressful and challenging at times, I'm pleased with my work, and finishing the project was one of the best feelings all year for me.
In Social Issues and World Cultures and Geography this year, we covered so much information on each topic, and especially in Social Issues, so much of the info was very eye-opening and was interesting to dive deeper into. In World Cultures and Geography, I learned more about how the Incas, for example, how they built infrastructure, lived their lives, and how advanced they were, was so fascinating. In social Issues, we learned much about stress, global issues, and the body. Mr. Watson is also a fantastic teacher and did a great job keeping the course engaging. And how funny he is always made me excited to come to class. I am going to miss him next year.
