10th Grade - Physics in The Universe
In this project, our class had to create a cost and benefits analysis presentation on the different potential long-term energy sources for the Bay Area. The project aimed to showcase renewable energy sources and think critically ahead for California's future. Creating an exciting slideshow, that was more than just full of bleak statistics was challenging because those statistics currently provide the incentive to get people to try to make environmental changes. I chose this particular work sample because, as a person who loves spending as much time outside as possible, I will be significantly impacted by climate change in the future. I also chose this sample because I am proud of the visual skills in my presentation, and it demonstrates the skills I have learned throughout high school in making a project look visually appealing.
Physics In The Universe This Year
I have stepped up as a student this year, especially in the science classroom. I have changed how I approach the more complex topics in the class, and I am proud of how I've always worked hard to better my understanding. When faced with challenging topics, I slowly learn and think about problems from all angles. I love learning about physics, and this class is easily one of my favorites this year. I've loved learning about topics from outer space to magnetism, working with friends, and learning new ways to overcome obstacles.
9th Grade - Lab - Inheritance in Wisconsin Fast Plants
In this lab, we learned more about inheriting traits by using Wisconsin Fast plants as an example. I enjoyed this unit as a whole, and this lab was mainly my favorite assignment during the unit. This is because learning about inheritance was crucial in my understanding of genetics overall. I also think I was most interested in this out of the class because, for a long time, I have always wondered why I have curly and blond hair while the rest of my family has wavy-ish brown hair. And now I understand why. I’m also proud of this work because I remember spending a lot of time trying to understand the punnett squares (how you calculate predictions of characteristics of an offspring from the parents), and I recall working hard to understand the topic. Seeing good grades due to working hard motivated me to keep working my hardest.
The Living Earth was always super memorable and challenging, which are two reasons why this class was so absorbing for me. But what I loved most about this class was finally succeeding in understanding topics after a long time of not quite getting it. Overall, I enjoyed Living Earth because it was always super interactive, challenging, and rewarding and because doing labs with friends was always a great time.
