First of all, before we started sketching, we practiced drawing straight lines without a ruler . This practice helps us draw and note down future design ideas in a fast and efficient way.
BLUE PENCIL SKETCHING + FINELINE
For sketching out the shapes, we used a blue pencil led to make a rough outline of our template.
For fine line, we first start with a 0.3 fineline pen and outline the shape(following every blue line).
Additionally, the 0.3 fine line overlaps with eachother as part of the construction lines.
Then we use a 0.8 fineline pen to outline the perimeter cleanly.
COPIC MARKER RENDERING
This is the copic markers I used for the first hald of the paper.
Firstly, we started by outlineing the inner perimeter with the lighter colour.Â
After that, we made clean streaks with the marker inside, to quickly display our intentions. In this context, we are displaying the reflective streaks of light and shadows in metal.
We then made additional adjustments to the shading to show the curves of the object or the light shadows of extruding/ intruding parts.
Later for the rest of the page, I used a warmer grey copic marker , using the same techniques as the other one.
This is the finished page of copic marker rendering, before we add extra shadows with the black pencil rendering.Â
BLACK PENCIL RENDERING + COLOUR BLOCKING)
This is the other copic coloured markers to block out the shapes.
For black pencil rendering, we added additonal rendering with the darker colour pencil.
To block out the design with colour, we first start by drawing two lines, then line out the perimeter of the design to make sure we don't accidentally colour over.Â
After we fill in the box with streaks of colour, we go over it again to make it look more smooth and finished.
The colour block helps the design stand out of the page more.
This helps add more dimension to the design on paper. Since the marker could only do limited things the black pencil will helps add more depth.Â
HAND HELD WHISKS (COPIC RENDERING)
We were given a template filled with already finelined hand-held whisks for us to practice our marker rendering and other skills that we didn'tget to really do on the other page.
For this page, I tried to choose a variety of diiferent colours to make the page more vibrant.
I used a colour wheel to help decided the best fitting complementary colours or colourscheme that looks good together.
To create the look of a dent or grove in the design, I shaded the space with the same colour in the opposite direction of the light.
On this page, since we have a bigger design, it allowed me to mix light and dark colours in on one section which can create more depth to the design.
Lastly, I attempted to colour the whisks in a more realistic way, with the stripy and curved reflections and shadows to show it's shape or silhouette.
BLACK PENCIL RENDERING
WHITE PENCIL HIGHLIGHTS
For highlights, we use white pencil to recreate the effect of a bounce light or make extra reflections that we have forgotten to leave a white space for during marker rendering. However, on paper, the white pencil doesn't have a good coverage which creates a muddy or cloudy effect instead.
As seen in this picture, the light is placed at the edge, to further create the effect of an indent to give it more depth and perspective to the drawing.
In contrast to the other picture, here the light can be seen on the top of a button or at the edge of things to create the effect of something extruding outwards.
Overall, I think that by learning to render with copic markers on a finer or more detailed piece, it has improved my rendering skills a lot. By gaining more experience with the copic markers, it has helped me both with speed and accuracy on my other products. (Such as the extended project). Additionally, I like how the shadows give the piece a lot more depth and dimension to a 2d sketch. However, I think that I should have left more white spaces for highlights, as the pencil highlights have left some parts of the finished product a bit muddy.Â

It is quite essential to fineline all the structure line so that it will make the selection process more efficient
