The G.UTS
The G.UTS
G.UTS was a first go at engaging people with the graffiti process. Participants have the prompt ‘what does your GRRR look like?’. Choosing from posca markers, acrylic paint and chalk they engaged in a repetitive mark making process. They had the glass windows outside the gallery, the floor and walls inside the gallery as a sketchbook for their mark making.
How did the materials inform the experience?
Why was it therapeutic?
Is there value in doing it as a group versus individually?
The most valuable findings from these questions revealed that squirting paint out of a bottle was much more expressive than using a pen with so much control. Doing this on a large canvas and not a small piece of paper was therapeutic. It was at first less theraputic doing this ina group because some people felt pressure as others are watching, however found the group activity inspiring in the end. Discussions highlighted that further research would be valuable in how people work individually versus in a group.
