The Discovery
Through the iterative process of mark making throughout the research project thus far, stumbling upon the marks of tagging and graffiti has opened up a whole new avenue. It can provide insight into how young people communicate. There is a fascinating conversation to be had between the repetition of a tag and the repetition in learning. In order to acquire a skill, it needs to be repeated many times and this is the same for mark making. For a person who had never engaged with the art of tagging whilst having a strong drawing background, it was a challenge. There is a hidden complexity behind the chaos of these marks that requires repetition to grasp. The process driven nature of this art form can teach a lot about repetitive expression. It can be a tool to work through and accept emotions without needing to fix them.
