Aviation History, aka AS100, is an introductory course that covers the historical development of flight from ancient times to the modern era, including both civilian and military contributions. Students learn about early flight attempts, the impact of conflicts around the world on aviation, the jet age, and the role of the U.S. Air Force throughout history. The course also typically provides an overview of basic principles of flight and can include space exploration history.
Taught by the SASI/ASI, Aviation History is one of the first classes given to a new cadet in the corps, with the exception of branch-to-branch transfers. These new cadets are then taught and learn the historical events that are related to the aviation field. From learning how the Mongols in Asia utilized balloons to get an advantage against their enemies to the United States Air Force using B-2 Spirit bombers to protect the freedom of the United States of America, we learn just how important aviation has been to modern society.
