The mission for our dedicated Girls++ team of 16 is to host a 2-day STEM-based camp with each day containing two themes of a different STEM pillar. Topics covered in this camp will include science (biology, chemistry), technology (coding, computation), engineering (design, robots), and math (of all types).
Our long-term impact is to inspire life-long confidence and interests in STEM subjects by providing engagement in an abundance of exciting STEM related events and women-in-STEM speakers from diverse backgrounds.
The students that PALS accommodate are mostly from minority, low-income backgrounds. Engaging in STEM activities in their elementary and middle school years can allow young children, especially girls, to push themselves to flourish within male-dominated fields.
Through activities ranging from science and technology to engineering and math in our 2-day STEM event, we hope that students will gain knowledge and experience in STEM subjects as well as build other soft skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration. These experiences and abilities will be important for succeeding in STEM at school and beyond. Students will also have the opportunity to connect to STEM related organizations within our school and local community to gain the confidence to advocate for similar women-in-STEM related topics in the future. Overall, we hope that this event will contribute to connecting girls with STEM and with one another!
