Project Need

Engineering is an important field that pushes the boundaries of applied science by solving technical problems that enable advancements in construction, manufacturing, medicine, and various other fields. The field is frequently at the forefront of innovation and plays an essential role in shaping society and its future. While engineering is a broad field with many applications, there has long been a stereotype that women will not succeed in these fields. Despite significant contributions to the area of engineering by women, they remain underrepresented in the industry. G4EE (Girls for Engineering Equality) promotes the importance of gender diversity in the field by highlighting the accomplishments of female engineers.

Women make up only 28% of the workforce in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields, according to National Science Foundation data, and this figure is even lower in engineering. Only 13% of engineers were female in 2019. Despite these statistics, female engineers have made ground-breaking discoveries and contributed significantly to the development of new technologies. G4EE aims to encourage more females to pursue engineering careers and to provide resources to help them succeed. We want to make students feel included and capable so that they can become skilled programmers and future leaders. It is now more important than ever to address the STEM education gap, specifically the imbalance of representation in computer science. We feel it is our responsibility as students from a Title I school to close this gap with the resources we have! G4EE bridges this gap, paving the way for countless underrepresented students and more inclusive innovation in society.
