In civic engagement, G4EE focuses on service, representation, and advocacy.
In terms of service, we are well-equipped with resources to expand our project’s impact beyond the walls of our school through extensive outreach. Through the Girls Who Code club, GirlsBuild, GirlsComputingLeague, local social services organizations, and nearby Title I schools we have worked with, we will reach girls most in need of experiences in engineering. We will DM clubs on social media, contact gender equality nonprofits, email teachers in local (Title I) elementary and middle schools, and post flyers in local schools and libraries. In addition, we would provide highly reliable assistance to students during the build-a-thon by working with our school’s First Robotics Competition team and our experienced instructors. With these resources, we hope to offer participants a rewarding experience.
Our activity would also increase representation by bringing in a diverse array of students to enjoy this enriching opportunity.
As for advocacy, we would highlight the gender gap in STEM fields by discussing it within our panel and in the opening and closing ceremonies. Hopefully, clearly stating the problem can inspire other students to take action regarding the issue.
All in all, civic engagement is a top priority for us as we make a change in various aspects of STEM gender inequality.
