Module 3: Building a Schedule
Module 3 will help you manage your time with a calendar. You will select a calendar that works best for you and then schedule in additional time needed outside of class to do homework and prepare for tests.
As you begin this module, think about your answers to these questions. If you can’t answer them all at this point, that’s OK, but this is “food for thought” as you think about how you can schedule your time to accomplish what you need to do.
Do I use a monthly calendar and backtrack from the due date to present to schedule small pieces of a larger task?
What is my best time of the day to study? And where? If I sit on my bed at 10pm, do I fall asleep instead of finishing my chapter reading? If I try to type a paper in front of the TV in the kitchen, do I make more mistakes, take more breaks, get side-tracked by others, and eat too much?
Do I schedule time for online work? or forget to do it because it’s not as apparent as the classroom reminders in a face-to-face setting?
Managing my Time with a Calendar
It’s time for a new semester and you are ready to face these classes but what many students fail to do is put together a realistic plan. To see success you must carefully manage your study hours on a daily and weekly basis. Let’s begin by following these easy steps.
Pick your calendar
Schedule your class time
Schedule your study hours for each class. Commit to a specific time you will spend on a weekly basis preparing for your classes. (For example, a course load of 12 credit hours would equate to 24 hours of study a week).
Schedule due dates for exams, papers, and projects. This will allow you to schedule prep time for these assignments and create a realistic plan.
