Transport Options

When you fly in to the UK, you will probably find yourself heavily burdened with luggage, and when you have a family, there is even more luggage, possibly car seats and pet cages. Coordinating your pick up for the Airport is one of the most important aspects in the PCS process.

If your sponsor is unable to collect you from the airport, you will work closely with your sponsor to determine the best possible option for your situation. Since we do not have an official base courier service, there are three other options available to you. You or your sponsor can make arrangements to use the RAF Alconbury Services Airport Shuttle, utilize one of the base approved courier services, or potentially utilize public transportation.

Taxi/Courier Services

Passengers may coordinate ground transportation from one of the taxi/courier services listed below. Be advised that these pick-up arrangements need to be coordinated well in advance. Please discuss in detail with your sponsor, so the correct sized vehicle is there to pick-up your family. If you intend to obtain Pounds at the airport to pay for your transportation costs be certain to notify your bank that you will be using your card overseas.

Train Service

The nearest train station is located in Huntingdon which is located three miles south of RAF Alconbury. Direct train service from King's Cross Station in London to Huntingdon is available every hour; however, using train services is not recommended, particularly for those arriving with children. Travel by train can prove extremely challenging with luggage in tow, as well.
