Hello, my name is Tessa Pequita! I am a student at Bridgewater State University enrolled in the Elementary Education Program. I will begin student teaching in January of 2023. In May of 2023, I am due to graduate with a Psychology, BS, and an Elementary Education, BSE. After graduation, I plan to become an elementary school teacher and further my education.
In my free time, I enjoy drawing, reading, and singing.
At BSU, I have worked to gain skills to help me become an effective teacher and leader. I have garnered these skills by completing community service, working with social justice programs, and working with non-profits.
This website is an accumulation of all of my work up to this point.
Awards
This award was presented by Denise Lane and Kelly Lamb, founders of Raising Multicultural Kids.
This award was presented by Fred Clark Jr, President of Bridgewater State University
Non-Profit Work
I worked with Jumpstart for two years (2020-2022). It is through Jumpstart that I learned how much I truly love teaching.
Jumpstart is an organization through Americorps where one can complete service in underserved preschool classrooms, and make an impact on the lives of young children.
I have worked for RMK since 2020.
My work at Raising Multicultural Kids has taught me how to coordinate online events and take on a virtual leadership role. It has also provided me with the resources to ensure that all students are represented in the classrooms that I serve.
Community Service
I am a Justice Fellow at the Martin Richard Institute of Social Justice. Through this work, I help the institute with events, and work to learn and inform others of social inequities. I also take part in the Community Service Projects that the Institutes hosts every few months.

Throughout my work at MRISJ, I have learned that Social Justice is much deeper than community service, protests, or philanthropy. All of these aspects can be agents of change, but social justice is a process that takes time an effort. We can change the world one inequity at a time, but this process takes team work and targeting the problem at the source. To the left of this I have posted the wheel of social change. In order to get social change to occur, it is necessary for all aspects of the wheel to be addressed.
This can be incredibly important when it comes to education. We can make a change in the lives of our students by addressing the social injustices they may be facing and we can work together to make sure they are getting the most effective educational experience that they can.
Community Service Projects
9/11 Day of Service
On this day of Service, The MRISJ partnered with End Hunger New England and hosted a group of students to pack meals for people with food insecurity. On this day we helped pack over 25,000 meals for families in New England.
Sharing the Harvest
During this service project MRISJ hosted BSU students to travel and serve at Sharing The Harvest Community Farm. At this farm we planted and harvested crops to donate to food insecure families in the surrounding towns.
Find out how you can serve here: https://www.facebook.com/STHFARM/
The MRISJ often does work for the Bridgewater Senior Center
Food donation- After the 9/11 day of service project, students bring boxes of prepackaged meals to support seniors in need.
Cards for Seniors- For each holiday, the MRISJ asks community members to make cards for seniors to help brighten their day.
Intergeneration Penpal Program: The MRISJ hosts an Intergenerational Penpal Program with the Bridgewater Senior Center. This program began in 2020 as a means for Seniors to get safe social interaction during the pandemic, but it has continued since then.
Every year MRISJ hosts a day of service. In 2022 RMK and MRISJ partnered with Jumpstart to host an online reading of children's books related the work of Martin Luther King Jr.
