Grade 1:
Station rotation is a very common way of running an activity in the classroom, it has been around forever. However, this station rotation model has stations made up where the students rotate on a fixed schedule or when the teacher tells them to. No matter how many stations there are, one always has to technology involved. At the online learning station, students are engaged with programs ranging from creation tools to research based.
Specifically for 1st grade, this would be a great opportunity for students to work on new online skills since most at this age are learning how to use technology in a safe and educational way if not learning how to use technology all together. Having this station as a learn to type station or something would allow the students to individually explore with technology.
Assistive technology is used through schooling and comes heavily when students are struggling or have a disability whether that is learning or physical. Assistive technology allows the students to be working on the same things however would have the approach be different for some depending on their needs. It allows students to have a sense of independence.
Specifically for 1st grade, students would be able to get assistance with an audio book when it came time to read. That way they would be able to comprehend the sounds of the words to the words on the physical page to make the mental connection. This would be such a great tool for everyone not just students who need it.
Grade 2:
Blending learning has students at the center and front line of their learning. It includes a combination of engaging and active online learning in addition to collaborative and controled offline learning. It allows the students to have more of a balance in their life and to have an overall more engaging experience.
Specifically for 2nd grade, the students would be able to access work like a worksheet or a presentation on a device but then work with classmates to complete the assignmnet. As well as learning through technology about some topics but then insuring that when it comes to some social-emotional skills, students put down the devices to create relationships.
Project based learning has the students engaged with a topic by having them work on a long term project to learn more about the topic as well as real world problems. It allows the students to take a lead on their own learning and the direction in which they want to go on the project. It also allows them to engage and further their knowledge on something that is interesting to them.
Specifically for 2nd grade, the students would be able to have a weather log. This would allow them to watch the weather that is happening in our location and then do research and think about it. They could take the log in many different ways, for example, how they wanted to log the information. As well as, what topic from the log they really wanted to research.
Grade 3:
Station rotation is a very common way of running an activity in the classroom, it has been around forever. However, this station rotation model has stations made up where the students rotate on a fixed schedule or when the teacher tells them to. No matter how many stations there are, one always has to technology involved. At the online learning station, students are engaged with programs ranging from creation tools to research based.
Specifically for 3rd graders, this would allow them to explore topics for research individually. Whether this is for a project or just more on a topic in class. It would help them build on their research skills, step away from plagiarism, and work on learning the basics of citing sources.
A flipped classroom is a way of running a class by having the students read the "new material" outside of class time, like for homework. Then next time they come to class, the teacher is able to jump straight into the discussion and information rather than spending time in class on the material. It also allows the students time to review the material and see if they have any questions about it. In the long run, it allows class time to be more engaging, hands on, and discussion filled.
Specifically for 3rd graders, this would work in a class reading. When the students have a book to read for class instead of giving them time to read a chapter and then talk. The teacher has them do the reading as homework so when they arrive at class tomorrow they are able to have a discussion about the chapter in class and really get into some of the harder topics with the chapter.
Grade 4:
Blending learning has students at the center and front line of their learning. It includes a combination of engaging and active online learning in addition to collaborative and controled offline learning. It allows the students to have more of a balance in their life and to have an overall more engaging experience.
Specifically for 4th grade, students would be able to work on papers by having them typed up on Google Docs so then they are able to share and peer edit. However they would look offline for more about creating friendships and the social-emotional aspect of learning.
Collaborative learning is when students bring in their interesting, knowledge, and perspectives into the classroom. They then work together and talk about other solutions, perspectives, and problem solving. Teachers can create a collaborative learning space by having the students involved in the process from the beginning. It also includes making all spaces a collaborative space meaning that students can use anywhere to collaborate with each other whether that is in the hallway or using the walls to hold up anchor charts. Then combing virtual and physical learning spaces because the internet holds so much information out there it will only help the students in working together.
Specifically for 4th grade, teachers could have in the classroom all different kind of areas from a rug area to desks to standing areas. As well as wall space for them to put things and easy access to the writing materials. They can come together and at this age hold more serious and in depth conversations with each other as well as with the teacher.
Grade 5:
Project based learning has the students engaged with a question by having them work on a long term project to learn more about the topic as well as real world problems. It allows the students to take a lead on their own learning and the direction in which they want to go on the project. It also allows them to engage and further their knowledge on something that is interesting to them.
Specfically for 5th grade, the students would be able to learn more about recycling and action steps to help the environment when it comes to recycling. This would also allow them to make the connection to their own lives and might be able to turn into a project that might make a difference in their very own school community.
Differentiated learning allows for students to have a more individual learning experience. Teachers have the students working in groups based on their skills and their level of understanding of a topic. The teacher continues to hold the student to high standards and helps them strive for them at their own pace.
Specifcially for 5th grade, the students would be able to work with students at the same level to work toward the goals. This would allow the students to be working at their level but not feeling overwhelmed by people around them. For example, working with fractions, some students may be able to understand mentally what the fractions represent while some students may still need the hands on aspect of what 1/2 really is.
Grade 6:
A flipped classroom is a way of running a class by having the students read the "new material" outside of class time, like for homework. Then next time they come to class, the teacher is able to jump straight into the discussion and information rather than spending time in class on the material. It also allows the students time to review the material and see if they have any questions about it. In the long run, it allows class time to be more engaging, hands on, and discussion filled.
Specifically for 6th graders, the time in the class is precious since they most likely switch teachers for different subject areas you do not have time to just move a subject back in the schedule. So having the students preview the lab and the information they need about the lab for homework instead of in class allows them to come into class with an idea of how to conduct the lab.
Specifically for 6th grade, especially in the middle school years where they start to switch classes, students are able to hold deep conversations and when students are holding their own opinions. At this age, teachers will be able to have deep discussions about serious topics relating to the subject matter.
