Winter 2025
Dear East Girls basketball candidate,
The East basketball season is rapidly approaching, and we are all very excited about our upcoming season. Enjoy your Fall sports and school, and let’s get going with some basketball.
Physical exams are required for all basketball candidates. Candidates should submit all forms to the athletic office via planeths. Any fall sport participants will need a recertification by parent and player. The forms are due for MS sports by Friday, November 7th.
Reminder: No athlete may begin without a physical card signed/dated after May 1st, 2025.
Tryouts will begin Friday, November 14th. They will continue on Monday, November 17th, Tuesday, November 18th, Wednesday, November 19th, and Thursday, November 20th. All tryout times are 2:45-4:30. We will also have open gym on Monday 11/10 from 2:45-4 and Wednesday 11/12 from 2:45-4. All items that a player can attend will help us in making a final decision.
Please be picked up promptly. Be sure to bring all clothing you plan to change into, appropriate sneakers, and your water with you. DO NOT BRING A BALL. The team room will be unlocked each morning where you can store your bags. We will meet outside the locker room after the 2nd bell each day during tryouts. In the event that any of these dates are affected, please check the tab – basketball – on my website: https://sites.google.com/student.boyertownasd.org/hagmann/home
Note: After the conclusion of the tryout sessions, practice will be held for those players who make a squad. Practice will be held immediately after school until 4:30pm.
Sincerely,
John R. Hagmann jhagmann@boyertownasd.org OR hagmann@comcast.net

Congratulations on being a part of the girls basketball family here at Middle School East!
Below is the practice and scrimmage/game schedule. This will definitely be modified as we go during the year due to scheduling conflicts or weather issues. If you don’t hear from us, always assume everything is on as scheduled.
If an emergency happens and you are going to miss something or be late, please contact us as soon as possible.
My contact info: Cell 610-513-2380 Email: jhagmann@boyertownasd.org
A couple quick points: Keep your grades up and your school/basketball conduct acceptable.
At any time, if you have any questions, please ask. If we don’t know, we will find out.
Playing time is not guaranteed. We are trying to develop everyone and hopefully everyone gets to play in every game. The better you play in practice, the better you will play in the game. Also, if you miss the practice before a game for any reason, you will not start that next game.
We do everything as a team – that includes stretching, warm ups, huddles, cheers, and running on and off the floor.
Stay positive and support each other. Please remember, this is a game. You are here to have fun while getting better at basketball. Do not show frustration to our team or your opponents. Keep your head up and work hard.
If you make a mistake, learn from it. If you miss a shot or make a bad pass, try to improve from it. Mistakes happen – just learn from them and improve each day. Let’s just try to not make the same ones. None of us are perfect.
The fans in the stands are fans in the stands. Everyone is at the game to encourage you and watch you play. Please don’t look at your friends or parents when you make a mistake, or celebrate wildly if you make a great play. We can celebrate after the game or in the huddle. Also, many fans like to coach. Try to focus on what we do and what plays we have practiced and learned. We know it’s difficult, but it will help you in the end to ignore everything outside the court.
No one argues with the referees or gets into any kind of conflict with anyone on our team or the other team. After each game, we will shake the opponent’s hands and the referees if they are still there at the game.
We are going to be together for many, many hours. Let’s get better each day and make sure we work as a team!
Home games - 8th stays for 1/2 of 7th.
Away games - 8th may leave with note from game if absolutely necessary.
