While being an editor for The Oakmonitor, I wanted to recruit students who I thought would both benefit and contribute to our sports coverage. I have been fortunate to have groomed a dynamic staff. With several student journalists dedicated to athletics, it is a hectic, yet fulfilling post. This year, I introduced a new sports photographer to the site to try and fill in my spot when I graduate. We have a fantastic sports staff at The Oakmonitor. I have surrounded myself with people who pride themselves in passionate journalism.

At the end of September, our sports team set a goal of posting a sports piece each school day. And one long-form article each week. Being an online publication, we felt we could offer accuracy and currency as goals. We are proud of our daily sports coverage as well as in-depth sports analysis at The Oakmonitor. Our executive board is always thinking of different ways to stay updated with our reporters. This year we incorporated a Google Classroom, so people could share pieces with editors. I took responsibility for making a spreadsheet so people could add what they were writing about and what due dates worked for the page. It has been an effective system.
