The Global Summit in 2024 revolved around the theme of wildlife on the land and in the water. With guest speaker Dr. Micah Miller, the director of two wildlife conservation programs at the Biodiversity Research Institute, we learned about how scientists are maintaining and improving the biodiversity of different animal species all over the world. This brought to my attention how I affect the wildlife in my area and made me think about ways I can reduce my negative impact on them. Because of this summit, I will make a greater effort to live sustainably and reduce my footprint as much as I can.
The Summit during my junior year of high school revolved around similar themes to the 2024 summit, clean energy and sustainable cities. This event made me identify different aspects of my town and my community that are either environmentally sustainable or not. After this summit, I have tried to stay sustainable and promote sustainability to the people around me. It made me take a look at myself and see myself as a part of a greater global community. I now feel a greater responsibility to do my part in staying sustainable and promote the environment wherever I can.
My first Global Summit experience was in 2022, my sophomore year of high school. This summit centered around experiencing different cultures in the community of Andover. We had fun activities such as salsa dancing and lei making as well as, being able to talk to someone overseas through The Portal. This experience opened my eyes to more cultural experiences that exist in my town and around the world. I think this Summit made me more open-minded and knowledgeable about different lifestyles and traditions that people have.
