My Global Portolio

Welcome!

Hi! My name is Michaela Buckley and I am a senior at Andover High School. Welcome to my Global Portfolio!

I joined Global Pathways my freshman year during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. The program made me feel more connected to my community during a difficult time, and I was excited by the wealth of possibilites that Global would provide me.

About Me:

I'm a senior at Andover High School, and I have been a member of Global Pathways for four years. Some of my hobbies include hiking, running, baking, and listening to music, and I also love to read. Although I have so many beloved books, my favorite is either Wonder by R.J. Palacio, The Nightingale, or The Book Thief. I am the captain of my soccer, basketball, and track and field teams, but I have been involved in sports practically since I could walk.

In addition to my athletic endeavors, I also have an interest in politics. My congressional internship, and my experiences in my capacity as an executive board member of Congressman Seth Moulton's Congressional Youth Advisory Council, have opened my eyes to the fascinating world of politics. I yearn to understand the innerworkings of the Amercian political system so as to be a driving force of change. I want to advocate for those who cannot stand up for themselves, and to represent the change I wish to see in the world.

Service has always been an integral aspect to my life not only as a Global Scholar, but also as a human being. I seek to serve others with humility, compassion, and integrity, and to spread altruism to all those around me. Through various service projects with Project 351, a statewide service and leadership organization that I have participated in since eighth grade, I have helped to impact thousands of people across my communtiy. I am the president of Aim2Learn, a tutoring club that I run with two of my peers. We provide free tutoring to students who need extra help and cannot otherwise afford a tutor.

Above all else, the most important aspect of my life is my family and friends. I have an older sister, Abby, and two loving parents. I am blessed to have three dogs, who enrich my life in every way. I love to go out to eat with my friends, and I enjoy just simply spending time with them.

Athletics

I am the captain of my soccer, basketball, and track & field teams. Sports have taught me countless valuable life lessons, such as the importance of hard work, perserverance, and teamwork. Above all, I have grown in my roles as a leader, which has aided in my communication skills and ability to connect with others.

Politics

Politics have always infatuated me, and the pervasive nature of policy has compelled me to both follow and get involved in politics. I am an executive board member of Congressman Seth Moulton's Congressional Youth Advisory Counciil, and I was honored to moderate a forum with him at our school. In the future, I hope to enter the realm of politics to effect meaningul change in the world.

Future Plans

I will attend the University of Connecticut in the Honors Program, studying political science on the pre-law track. I also plan to minor in Spanish.
