Maths progressions will differ from student to student but may include the following:
Addition & Subtraction (Week 1-5)
Year 5 Add/Sub
Round to estimate addition and subtraction problems with 3-digit numbers.
Use place value partitioning to add and subtract 3-digit numbers.
Reverse subtraction and use a number line with numbers up to 3-digits.
Use an equal addition strategy up to 3-digits.
Use doubles and near-doubles of numbers in 100s.
Year 6 Add/Sub
Round to estimate addition and subtraction problems with 4-digit numbers.
Use place value partitioning and algorithms to add and subtract 4-digit numbers.
Use rounding and compensating to add and subtract 4-digit numbers.
Use a few strategies to add and subtract whole numbers.
Measurement (Week 5-8)
Year 5 Measurement
Write abbreviations for a range of metric units.
Select an appropriate metric unit when measuring something.
Use a ruler to measure and draw lines in millimeters.
Year 6 Measurement
Calculate the difference between multiple measurements.
Shape (Week 8-10)
Year 5 Shape
Name, sort and draw some more complex 2D and 3D shapes and identify their attributes.
Create a net for a rectangular prism.
Year 6 Shape
Represent objects using drawings and models.
Sort complex shapes by their physical attributes and justify decisions.
