Term 1 Maths Progressions
Maths progressions will differ from student to student but may include the following:
Statistics (Week 2-5)
Students will be working towards recording, sorting and interpreting data. We will be finding data related to our topic.
Year 5 Statistics
Sort number results, use a tally chart to count them and write the total number in a table.
Read and interpret some data graphs including pictograms, strip graphs and column graphs.
Show the chance of something happening as a probability compared to a total.
Year 6 Statistics
Sort, tally and total data and produce an appropriate graph
Read and interpret a range of data graphs including; stem and leaf graphs, column, line and combination graphs and tree diagrams
Show the chance of something happening as a probability compared to a total and give the equivalent probability as a chance out of 100
Place Value (Week 5-7)
Students will be learning to recognise tens, hundreds and thousands in numbers up to 1,000,000. They will also be looking at rounding numbers and multiplying and dividing.
Year 5 Place Value
Recognise tens, hundreds and thousands in all numbers to 1,000,000
Multiply and divide any number by 10, 100 or 1000
Round all numbers up to 10,000 to the nearest 10, 100, 1,000 or 10,000
Year 6 Place Value
Recognise tens, hundreds, thousands in ALL whole numbers.
Recognise tenths in numbers to 1 decimal place.
Recognise hundredths in numbers to 2 decimal places.
Round ALL whole numbers up to 1,000,000 to the nearest 1, 10, 100 or 1000.
Round decimals, to 2 decimal places, to the nearest whole number
Addition & Subtraction
Students will be looking at using a variety of different addition and subtraction strategies.
Year 5 Add/Sub
Round to estimate addition and subtraction problems with 3-digit numbers.
Reverse subtraction and use a number line with numbers up to 3-digits.
Use an equal addition strategy up to 3-digits.
Year 6 Add/Sub
Round to estimate addition and subtraction problems with 4-digit numbers.
Use place value partitioning and algorithms to add and subtract 4-digit numbers.
Use a few strategies to add and subtract whole numbers.
