Term 3 Maths Progressions
Maths progressions will differ from student to student but may include the following:

Geometry
Year 5 Geometry

• Understand (cardinal and ordinal) compass direction words.

Year 6 Geometry

• Use compass (cardinal and ordinal) direction words to say where things are on a map. 

Measurement
Year 5 Measurement

• Write abbreviations for a range of metric units.

• Select an appropriate metric unit when measuring something. 

• Use a ruler to measure and draw lines in millimetres. 

Year 6 Measurement

• Calculate the difference between multiple measurements. 

Multiplication and Division

Year 5 Multiplication and Division

• Use known multiplication and division facts (up to 10x).

• Solve division from known multiplication facts (up to 10x). 

• Use place value partitioning (2-digits) and known facts. 

• Solve division problems which have remainders. 

• Instantly recall the multiplication and division facts for x3, x4 and x6. 

Year 6 Multiplication and Division

• Use all multiplication and division facts to 10 x 10. 

• Use doubling and halving (2-digit x 1-digit). 

• Use trebling and thirding (2-digit x 1-digit). 

• Use place value partitioning (2-digit x 1-digit). 

• Use rounding and compensating (2-digit x 1-digit). 

• Instantly recall the multiplication and division facts for x7, x8 and x9. 

• Identify and understand 'factors'.
