The spelling programme will continue on from Year 4, using 'The Code', which ties in well with the BSLA programme.
Because the Teachers are beginning this new journey, our spelling programme will begin in Term 2. It is important we focus on learning and implementing BSLA. In the meantime, spelling will be included within the BSLA programme.
The code focuses on their phonetic knowledge of sounds in words and different spelling patterns.
Because the focus is on rules in spelling, as your child progresses through the programme the words may not 'feel' more difficult, but the rules they focus on will become more complex.
Spelling testing will happen throughout the week. The rule they are focusing on as well as their words for the week will come home in their notebook for extra practise.

Students are given a sheet of basic facts questions every Monday to practice at home. When they are able to answer 47/50 questions correctly in our Friday test, they move on to the next sheet. Some students will have the same sheet for more than one week as they develop their maths skills.
Sheets are levelled at Stage 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8. The prototec website can also be used to support this learning.
