BSLA:
The Teachers in Years 4-6 are currently engaging in learning about the Better Start Literacy Programme through the University of Canterbury.
The BSLA programme is currently used in Years 1-3 and we are seeing some fantastic results come from students growth in their literacy.
We are very excited to be beginning this journey in Year 5 and look forward to the learning it brings for our students.
This term we will be focusing on:
Week 1 - 2: Reading comprehension. Prior to forming reading groups, we will focus on whole class learning. This will involve reading non-fiction texts and answering questions based on what they have learned.
Week 3 - 6: Articles.
Students will read a range of articles and information about various topics, including space exploration. We will also work on our research skills and be more precise when searching for information.
Week 7-10: Reports.
Students will focus on gathering and processing information and analysing visual language features. They will also be discussing the ideas presented within specific reports and how to summarize the information presented within them.
