Summary: The Theory of Critical Distances (TCD) is an approach for predicting fracture and fatigue in the presence of stress concentration features. It has become very widely used in recent years. Thanks to increased computing power, and better theoretical understanding, the TCD is now being applied to a wide range of materials and to many different engineering components and structures. In this symposium we will explore the diversity of use of the TCD and discuss future developments to widen its applicability even more.
