CLASSROOM AND CAMPUS CONDUCT RUBRIC

Middle school students will receive individual conduct grades for each subject, as well as an overall Campus Conduct grade each quarter.

Students in second through fourth grade will receive a conduct grade primarily based on the Classroom Conduct Rubric; however, the Campus Conduct Rubric guidelines will also be taken into consideration.

CLASSROOM CONDUCT RUBRIC

To earn an E – Excellent, the student will satisfy all the following:

·       Have no more than 1 “Sticky Note” conduct reminders in the associated class during the quarter

·       Have no Demerit Behavior Flips (BFlips) that are directly associated with the class during the quarter.

·       Have no incidences of academic misconduct, including but not limited to cheating in anyway – copying, “cheat sheets”, turning in someone else’s work as the student’s own, etc.

·       Have no more than 2 unexcused tardies to class during the quarter

·       Participate in class to the level expected by the teacher.

To earn a G – Good, in conduct the student will satisfy all the following:

·       Have between 2 – 7 “Sticky Note” behavior reminders in the associated class.

o   Teachers will email or call parents when a student reaches a total of 5 “Sticky Notes” in a quarter and explain that if the student reaches a total of 8 "Sticky Notes,” he/she will have earned no more than an S in conduct.

·       Have no Demerit BFlips in the associated class during the quarter.

·       Have no incidences of academic misconduct, including but not limited to cheating in anyway – copying, using AI to complete assigned work, “cheat sheets”, turning in someone else’s work as the student’s own, etc.

·       Have no more than 3 unexcused tardies to class during the quarter.

o   Teachers will email or call parents when a student reaches a total of 2 unexcused tardies to class and explain that if he/she reaches a total of 4 unexcused tardies the student will have earned no more than an S in conduct.

To earn an S – Satisfactory, the student has one or more of the following:

·       Has a total of 8 - 9 “Sticky Note” behavior reminders in the associated class during the quarter.

o   Teachers will email or call parents when a student reaches a total of 8 “Sticky Notes” in a quarter and explain that if the student reaches a total of 10 "Sticky Notes,” he/she will have earned no more than an N in conduct

·       Has 1 Demerit BFlip that is directly associated with the class during the quarter.

·       Has had an incidence of academic misconduct as described above will result in an S or lower, depending on the situation.

·       Misuse of technology may result in an S in conduct.

·       Have between 4 - 8 unexcused tardies to class during the quarter.

o   Teachers will email or call parents when a student reaches a total of 5 unexcused tardies to class and explain that if he/she reaches a total of 9 unexcused tardies the student will have earned no more than an N in conduct.

To earn an N – Needs Improvement, in conduct the student has one or more of the following:

·       Has a total of 10 “Sticky Note” behavior reminders in the associated class during the quarter.

·       Has 2 Demerit BFlips that are directly associated with the class during the quarter.

·       Has had an incidence of academic dishonesty, as described above, which can result in a conduct grade of N as determined by the Dean of Students, Vice Principal, or Principal.

·       Serious misuse of technology may result in an N in conduct.

·       Have more than 9 unexcused tardies to class during the quarter.

To earn a U – Unsatisfactory in conduct the student has one or more of the following:

·       Has a total of 11 or more “Sticky Note” behavior reminders in the associated class during the quarter.

·       Has 3 or more Demerit BFlips that are directly associated with the class during the quarter.

·       Has an incidence of academic dishonesty, as described above, which can result in a conduct grade of U as determined by the Dean of Students, Vice Principal, or Principal in conjunction with the teacher.

·       Continued or serious misuse of technology may result in a U in conduct.

Early Childhood: PreK - 1st Grade will continue as in the past for Classroom Conduct grading. 

 CAMPUS CONDUCT RUBRIC 2nd – 8th GRADE: 

This conduct grade reflects a student’s behavior in areas that are outside the classroom, such as the dining hall, during recess or teacher supervised outdoor activities, hallways, etc.

To earn an E in Campus Conduct, the student will satisfy all the following:

·       Have no Demerit BFlips associated with conduct outside the classroom.

·       Have no more than 1 written uniform violation reminder.

·       Have no more than 1 “Sticky Note” behavior reminder that is associated with conduct outside the classroom.

o   Teachers in 2nd grade and above, as well as Admin Team members will be issuing “Sticky Note” behavior reminders for inappropriate behavior in the areas outside of the classroom. “Sticky Note” reminders will be turned into the Dean of Students by the student receiving the reminder.

To earn a G in Campus Conduct, the student will satisfy all the following:

·       Have no more than 1 Demerit BFlip for out of classroom behavior per quarter.

·       Have no more than 2 “Sticky Note” behavior reminders for out of classroom behavior.

·       Have between 2 – 4 written uniform violations in a quarter.

To earn an S in Campus Conduct, the student has one or more of the following:

·       A total of 3 or 4 “Sticky Note” behavior reminders given for out of classroom behavior.

o   Four out of class “Sticky Note" behavior reminders will result in a visit with the Dean of Students and a Demerit BFlip.

·       Has no more than 2 Demerit BFlips for out of classroom behavior.

·       Has between 5 – 8 written uniform violation reminders.

·       Misuse of technology outside of the classroom.

To earn an N in Campus Conduct, the student has one or more of the following:

·       A total of 5 “Sticky Note” behavior reminders given for out of classroom behavior.

·       Has 3 – 4 Demerit BFlips for out of classroom behavior.

o   Students with a total of four Demerit BFlips, for in-class behavior OR out- of-classroom behavior, in one quarter will be required to attend a Penance & Restoration Class (P & R). This is not “punishment” but rather an effort to avoid further Demerit BFlips which could result in a suspension and a U in Campus Conduct. Students in P & R write a Restoration Paper that is specific to the conduct that earned the 4 Demerit BFlips. The purpose of P & R is for the student to develop a plan to change inappropriate behavior by drawing on virtues, the teachings of Jesus, and specific strategies to redirect themselves before making an inappropriate choice. 

·       Has 9 or more written uniform violations.

·       Serious misuse of technology outside of the classroom.

To earn a U in Campus Conduct, the student has one or more of the following:

·       A total of 6 or more out of classroom “Sticky Note” reminders.

·       Has 5 or more Demerit BFlips for out of classroom behavior.

·       Has received an in-school or out-of-school suspension.

Early Childhood - PreK - 1st Grade will continue as in the past for Campus Conduct grading. 

CELL PHONES and SMART WATCHES

No student in PreK-4th grade is allowed to bring a cell phone or smart watch to school.  Students in 5th-8th grades may bring cell phones or smart watches to school; however, students must adhere to the following guidelines:

• Cell phones and smart watches must be turned off from arrival on campus until they leave campus.

• Cell phones and smart watches  are not to be used during Extended Day or any extracurricular activities, unless the student has been given permission by the supervising adult.

• At the beginning of each school day, students must store their cell phone or smart watch (turned off) in a designated place determined by school administration.

CELL PHONE and SMART WATCH VIOLATIONS

Improper use of a camera phone, including posting pictures or videos taken at school functions on websites, will lead to serious consequences, including by not limited to, suspension and/or expulsion.

• The first violation of the cell phone/smart watch policy will result in a warning.

• The second violation of the cell phone/smart watch policy will result in the phone being confiscated. It must be picked up from the Dean of Students by a parent/guardian, and will have a fine of $25.

• The third violation of the cell phone/smart watch policy will result in the loss of the phone privilege for the school year. The phone will be collected by an adult and held by the Dean of Students; it may be retrieved only by a parent or guardian, and will have a fine of $100.

CHROMEBOOK LOANER POLICY

• If a student’s Chromebook is broken or malfunctioning for any reason, it should be taken to the admin office to secure a loaner. The student needs to clearly explain the problem with the Chromebook.

• If a student forgets to charge his/her Chromebook or leaves it at home, he/she will be allowed to secure a Chromebook loaner (loaner) with no consequences twice per semester. 

• On the third instance in a semester where a student requires a loaner due to forgetting to charge their Chromebook or leaving it at home, the student will be required to have a conversation with Mrs. Buroker, and a phone call will be made to the student’s parents.

• On the fourth and any subsequent instance in a semester where a student requires a loaner due to negligence, the student will be charged a $20 Chromebook fee, assessed through FACTS. Additionally, the student will be required to meet with Mrs. Buroker, and a phone call will be made to the student’s parents. 

• If a student does not return a loaner Chromebook by the end of the day they borrowed it, they will be charged the $20 fee for the additional day they have kept the loaner. 

SEXUAL HARASSMENT

The school believes that every student has the right to attend school and school-related activities free from all forms of discrimination on the basis of sex, including sexual harassment from another student, a school employee, volunteer or visitor. The school treats sexual harassment seriously and considers the full range of disciplinary options up to and including expulsion, according to the nature of the offense. All students are expected to avoid behaviors that are offensive and to stop behaviors when asked or told to stop. All students are prohibited from engaging in offensive verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature directed toward another student, school employee, volunteer or visitor. 

A student who believes that he/she has been subjected to sexual harassment must bring the matter to the attention of the principal. If the principal is the subject of the complaint, the student must bring the matter to the attention of the pastor. The student must put the complaint in writing, including the date and the circumstances of the harassment. 

Students may receive assistance from their parents in writing their complaint. Notice of the alleged harassment is not official unless it is put in writing and delivered to the appropriate party for investigation. 

Once a written complaint is received by the principal or pastor, it is investigated immediately. In determining whether the alleged conduct constitutes harassment, the totality of the circumstances and the context of the alleged incidents are taken into consideration. In addition, the alleged harasser and his/her parents are called for a conference regarding the alleged activity. A prompt determination is rendered by the investigating authority and corrective action or disciplinary measures, if warranted, is imposed promptly. If the complaining student is not satisfied with the findings, then appeal may be made to the Office of Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Dallas. Retaliation against the complaining student is not allowed. A student’s complaint and the ensuing investigation remain confidential. 

SEARCHES 

Lockers remain under the jurisdiction of the school even when assigned to an individual student. The school reserves the right to inspect desks and lockers at any time. In addition, the school may inspect the personal possessions of students at any time the following, but not limited to: backpacks, gym bags and purses, and may require students to empty their pockets upon request.
