Remember, remember, the 5th of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.Guy Fawkes,
Guy Fawkes, 'twas his intent
To blow up the King and the Parliament
Three score barrels of powder below
Poor old England to overthrow
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match
Holler boys, holler boys, let the bells ring
Holler boys, holler boys
God save the King!
Guy fawkes was born on 1570, in York. He was part of a popular Yorkshire family.
He had died in 31, January1606 at 35 years old. He had a wife named pauline and a son named Thomas. He had served in the military and had seemed to be a law-abiding citizen.
However when he met Englishman Thomas Wintour in Spain. He joined a group of Catholic conspirators and was immediately told about their plans to get rid of the King.
Guy Fawkes was part of a group of people who wanted to blow up parliment. At the time Catholics and Protatstants were continuously arguing about religious veiws. King James I refused to prevent the suffering of Catholics in England. So Guy Fawkes along with Robert Catesy and others created the Gudpowder plot, a plan to blow up the houses of parliament.
Barrels of gunpowder were snuck into the cellars of the Parliament. Guy Fawkes used his military experience to attatch the fuses and had planned to wait until the King and Queen were there before lighting a match and blowing them up.
They were caught, as an anonymous letter was sent to the authorities. It read: ‘they shall receive a terrible blow this parliament and yet they shall not see who hurts them’.
Guy fawks was sentenced to death! He was executed by a hanging, on the 27th January 1606. His final words were a confession ' 'I wish to blow the Scottish King and all of his Scottish Lords back to Scotland.' Since this event people have celebrated Bonfire night as a reminder of how Guy Fawkes Failed and our King survived.
