Elementary School Projects

Using the services offered by Student Treasures all our students can become authors. They each make contributions to a class book depending on their grade. Students entries are one written page and one illustrated page of work to each book.

Structure and Function-

Students learn in a 3 tier project how to think like engineers. Using fairytale references students build different projects to teach them the beginning concepts of building and the design process.

Free standing Beanstalks- This lesson students are introduced to the idea of free standing structures of beanstalks. They make them using pipe cleaners. If the master the first challenge of making a beanstalk then the next stage is making one that also supports a "golden egg"

Three Little Pigs-

Students in this lesson built the 3 houses from the story: straw (toothpicks), sticks (popsicle sticks), bricks (foam craft building bricks). They must use the materials to keep out the big bad wolf from huffing and puffing and "blowing down" their houses.

The Magic Paint Brush -

Students are given the problem of making a "magic" paintbrush and told that it must do 3 different things. Using special materials and whatever recycle supplies we have on hand students can build the three function brushes. They must first use the skills they gathered in previous lessons to design, model, and test their paintbrushes.

The Pendulum-

In this lesson students are learning the difference in potential energy and kinetic energy. Using our VexIQ kits and iPads we built working pendulums to show in a physical way how energy and motion works.
