Apps Used in STEM

There are many apps we use in multiple grade levels here at Saint Ray's. Here's a list of some of the ones we use the most. Included is links to the apps websites in case you want to learn more!

The Foos

The Foos an app that lets students learn basic coding skills by helping the different foo characters solve the problems in foo ville.

Tynker

Tynker a blocky based coding app that has multiple activities for students. Different familiar activities like monster high and nascar racing. All to help students learn basic concepts of coding

Scratch Jr is another coding game our students use to create stories and games using very simple block code.

Abc mouse

Abc mouse is both an app and a website that we use with our students Pre-2nd grade. It helps reinforce multiple learning skills such as math, science, and literacy. With it we can also track their progress.

Toontastic is an app for students to create stories, make characters and use their creative voices to make a cartoon. Fantastic app for students to help learn narration and elements of storytelling.

Animator free is a drawing app and animation app rolled into one. Students learn to illustrate stories piece by piece to make their own silent story like real animators.

Lightbot

Lightbot is a coding application that teachers students from pre-k through older grades the simple skills of coding. Using logical thinking but not writing based even pre readers can excel at this game.

Robots is a great iPad app that allows students to explore the realm of robotics. Here is collected information about different types of robots around the world all at easy access of students.

Pic Kids

Pic Kids is a great educational tool for young and old students. Students looking to make a collage or poster and present all information in a fun, visual way will love this app.

Publisher Viewer

Publisher Viewer is a great app from the auto desk collection. We use this app with our Vex robots project to see in 3D model what we are planning to build. It allows us to see in still and video form from all angles what we are building.

Hopscotch

Hopscoth is an app that allows students to delve deeper into more complex versions of blocky code. Students can make a game, drawing simulator, create stories, and so much more.

Modkit for Vex

Modkit for Vex is another form of blocky coding that our older students use in helping them prepare for control in our vex iq robots. It allows them to preplan and experiment with different code to test for bugs in the program.

Drawing Desk

Drawing desk is another app we use for multiple ages. It's a great resource for drawing, photo editing and illustration. It's a great tool for use in all sorts of school projects and students love using their creating coloring skills with it.

Math Shelf

It's our belief it's never too early to start developing math skills. Therefore in our Pre-K class we have the math shelf app to help us develop and track our early learners math skills.

Students starting in 3rd grade get a full introduction into all Google applications. Our primary focus is education and internet safety to help all students be fully pre-paired to be in our evolving digital world.
