Mission & Identity
It comes from me, someone who has always felt like an outcast, like she didn't quite fit in with "normal" people. There has always been a quirky side to me. I find beauty in the odd and macabre, which could be viewed as "strange". Yet want to do good for the community & eventually the world, blending both sides of my personality, strange & selfless.
Our core mission is simple: to give food, clothes, shoes & basic essentials to those who need a little help. We believe that by providing items that can take away from life's bigger expenses like rent & utilities, we provide some breathing room —a moment when the people we help can take a full breath and focus on what really matters.
We serve any and all communities —there's no income restriction on a struggle; it is subjective & we understand that sometimes you just need an extra hand. There's no red tape, no gatekeeping, just people helping people, no matter their background.
Yes! Strange & Selfless is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) public charity. We are also a registered nonprofit in the State of North Carolina. This means your donations—both monetary and physical items—are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
Right now, we are relying on any physical donations we receive from the wonderful members of our community, whether in the form of items or funding. We are grateful for anything we are given. It is the thought that counts; any little bit gets us closer to helping more of our neighbors.
Right now, the only people running this are my husband (Alex), my two kids (9 & 5), and me, out of our two-bedroom apartment on a dream and some pixie dust, but we hope to grow & expand to many, many more people!
Our Work & Impact
Check out the "Our Work" page to see all of our past projects. You can also see the videos & reels we have made on our social media platforms!
This organization was born out of lived experience. Having people who claimed to be family turn their backs on me & my family, cast judgment, and drag our names through the mud, we found ourselves living out of a hotel, not knowing what our next move was going to be. Yet we fought, we pushed, and we focused on what mattered the most- each other & we were able to claw our way out of that situation. We look for families or individuals that have been in similar situations, people who aren't "Struggling enough" to get any help from our broken system. Well, they will get help from us because we understand the situation and how hard it is to get yourself back on track.
The moment you remove a worry from someone's plate of endless tasks and stress, that is what makes it worth it. Seeing the relief on someone's face. Knowing that for a little bit, they have a little less to worry about & can focus their energy on other things.
Right now, we don't partner with any other nonprofits, but we have partnered with local businesses — check out our "Events" page!
100%! That would be amazing, just reach out to any of the contact methods listed on the "Contact Us" page!
Events & Involvement
We will always post events on the website, but check us out and follow us on social media for more real-time posts and updates.
YES!! All events will be open to the general public. Depending on the event, we may sell tickets or host 21+ events, but those would be advertised well in advance!
Typically not, but we do ask if you are attending to bring items to donate or make a monetary contribution so we can continue to host events and give to our community!
We are always looking for people who can lend a hand or expertise to our cause. Reach out to Haley to speak about potential opportunities!
Whatever you're going to be most comfortable in. Show up 100% authentically YOU, no masking, no shame, we are a safe space for EVERYONE! Just be respectful and mindful of others, that is all we ask!
Support & Giving
Donating items, time, or expertise! We also appreciate when people spread the word about who we are and what we are trying to build!
Every donation is put right back into Strange & Selfless to fund items we use to create care packages and purchase supplies for events. Eventually, we would love to open our very own Community Center that will be a place where neighbors can come and have access to a free grocery section, be able to cook in a community kitchen, have free laundry facilities, and a dining hall where meals and smiles can be shared amongst strangers who become friends. We have big plans, but we understand it will take a bit to get there. We just hope you will be part of our journey!
Yes! Reach out, and we can coordinate a pick up/ drop off!
