My name is Elliot Hagen and I am a junior. When I heard we were doing a poetry unit I was terrified because I thought it was going to be hard to come up with lines. We started the unit and I actually thought it was pretty fun and easy! Below are two poems one about a hot summer day and the other one is about Christmas.
The summer sun
Forces asphalt to boil
Coerces sweat to drip
Extorting its flame through the world
It bites my skin
As I sit by the fan
Hoping for a delightful gust
To cool off my skeleton
My feet touch the asphalt
Beginning to burn
Sweat dripping down my temple
As my stomach starts to turn
The pool water is cold
As I slowly step in
It is controlled
As the sun spins
The popsicle is eaten
It drips down its stem
Revealing some words
A joke to hem
Bright flickering lights shine on every house
Flashing rainbow colors throughout
Bright lights dance on bright snow
Christmas love starts to show
Glowing lights shine into windows
families laugh together
Telling stories about their lives
Eating together is such a treat
Picking off the table
What to eat?
Christmas tree so bold and bright
Ornaments decorate the night
Collected over their lives
Families sing and say grace
Eating cookies and cake
Their stomachs are full
Warm like their hearts
And their beds
As they sleep the night away
Peacefully napping
