Fundraising Policy
St Patrick’s Catholic School
Luke 12: 48 From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.
Rationale
The Board will ensure that fundraising events and fundraised money is managed appropriately.
Purpose
All staff members and committees will have clear guidance about fundraising activities and all fundraised money will be directed to fund appropriate school resources.
Guidelines
General
All fundraising activities for the school must be approved by the principal before they take place.
The purpose and intended beneficiary of all fundraising events must be clearly communicated to parents and the wider school community.
Anyone leading a fundraising activity for the school must agree to consult with the principal about what the funds raised will be used for.
All fundraised money must be kept separate from Operational Grant money.
Raffles and other gaming activities are to be conducted in accordance with the Gaming and Lotteries Act. This includes the application for appropriate licences where required.
Major Events
Major fundraising events involving over 200 people, or events involving the serving or selling of alcohol, require the approval of the Board.
Parent-Teacher Association / Fundraising Committee
The Fundraising Committee (also known as the Parent-Teacher Association) is independent from the Board and operates under its own charter and constitution.
The Committee must hold its own bank accounts independent of the school.
Because the Committee will raising money under the school’s name, permission from the principal is still required
Fundraising by the Board, Staff or Students
The funds raised by any fundraising undertaken by the St Patrick’s Catholic School Board, staff or students are crown funds and should be used accordingly (i.e. not to improve property owned by the proprietor).
Fundraising by the Proprietor
Any fundraising on behalf of the proprietor should happen outside of normal school hours and the money should be deposited into the proprietor’s bank account as soon as possible after the event.
Class or Sports Team Fundraising
Individual classes or sports team may lead small fundraisers
These must be approved by the principal
All money raised must be handled through the school office
Non-School Related Fundraising
Fundraising for charitable organisations will be decided on a case by case basis and must be approved by the principal. There will be no more than one charitable fundraiser per term and, where possible, the charity should be something meaningful to our community.
Fundraising by individual students and staff members is discouraged
Grants
The Board and principal are jointly responsible for identifying grant opportunities and applying on behalf of the school. This may be delegated to a Grants Committee approved by the Board.
Sponsorships
Sponsorships of any form must be approved by the principal.
