Advertising Policy

Rationale
The Board of Trustees will ensure that our students and whanau are not exploited by advertising companies and that all advertising at school is appropriate to our community and our special character.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to provide guidelines for the advertising or promoting of products or services to students and parents at St Patrick’s Catholic School.
Guidelines
General
St Patrick’s Catholic School’s name, facilities, staff, students, or any part of the school shall not be used for advertising or promoting the interests of a commercial or nonprofit agency or organization except as set forth below:
Publications
School publications, including publications such as the school newsletter may publish paid advertising provided they receive advance approval from the principal.
Sponsorship
The school may acknowledge a donation it has received from an organisation by displaying a “donated by,” or “sponsored by,” or a similar by-line with the organisation’s name and/or symbol on the item.
Non-Profit Organisations
Nonprofit organisations may be allowed to use the school name and images for purposes of advertising or promotion if the purpose is determined to be educationally related and prior approval is obtained from the principal.
Distributed advertisements
The principal may authorise advertisements to be distributed to students in paper or electronic form if these advertisements are in the interest of promoting educational, athletic or recreational opportunities deemed of interest to the school’s community (e.g. Waipa District Library, school holiday programmes)
Approval of Advertisement
In no instance may the principal accept advertising or advertising images for alcohol; tobacco; drugs; drug paraphernalia; weapons; obscene, pornographic or illegal materials; any product or service that is contrary to Catholic beliefs; or any advertising on behalf of political candidates.
Advertisements may be rejected if they are determined to be inconsistent with the educational objectives or values of the school.
Advertisements may be rejected if determined to be false, misleading, or deceptive, or if they relate to an illegal activity or antisocial behavior.
The principal is responsible for screening all such advertising for appropriateness, including compliance with the policies prohibiting sexual, racial, and religious harassment.

The inclusion of advertisements in school publications, or on school buildings or property, does not constitute approval or endorsement of any product, service, organization, or activity.
