Requirements

This robotics challenge would require a team to have knowledge and skills in following areas:

1. Mechanical design of the structure or chassis of the robot. This is the easiest of all.
2. Motion Design of the robot using some mechanisms, such as gears and linkages. This would require some ingenuity.
3. Creating circuits for various kinds of electronic devices, such as LEDs, ultrasonic sensor, DC motors, servos, and Arduino Uno. This is of moderate difficulty.
4. Programming an Arduino. If you know C++ programming, this would be made easier.

It is expected that you have some knowledge and skills in the above area. We are providing a set of tutorials on Arduino on this web site, which describe and explain how some common sensors and actuators can be interfaced and programmed using an Arduino Uno.

The MotionGen, a motion design app available at http://www.cadcam.eng.sunysb.edu can be used for designing and simulating planar N-bar linkages. This would be useful for the motion design of your robot. There is a mobile version also available, but the mobile version is only for planar four-bar linkages.
