What made Bueno Aires successful in preventing floods?
The recent urbanization led Buenos Aires to have poor heavy rainwater drainage which caused increasing rates of flood. The city's plan is to decrease the frequency of flooding by installing a new network of reservoirs in the city.
"Hydraulic Master Plan"
The city's solution to its frequent flooding is called the hydraulic master plan which involved upgrading the city's heavy rainfall drainage network to provide protection against 10-year rainfall events. This project consists of the installation of three reservoirs that are able to tank 300 million liters of water during heavy rains. One of the reservoirs is Lake Soldati, which is a flood-prone lake that will turn into a natural reservoir, allowing rainwater to flow to a nearby river in a controlled manner.
