Characteristics of a flood prone area

Low-lands near bodies of water

Rivers, as well as coastal areas, are very prone to floods as they are near bodies of water, as well as their topography which makes them very vulnerable to flooding.

Flood Plains

Flood plains tend to be seasonal, and flood during heavy rain fall. Otherwise, they can be dry for long periods of time.

Areas prone to Land Slides

These areas tend to be near pre-existing land-slides, or near the bottom of hollow drainages. Due to the listed characteristics, these areas are very susceptible to floods and warrant attention for care.
