We had an incredible day today, bringing our best together and building our collaborative skills with our Rock-mates. We had a bouncy castle, obstacle course, a football arena, tug of war, chant making, team building games, and jelly beans to finish it all off. Special thanks to Mapari Meats for providing sausages for every child too!
How awesome did the kids look in their Rock Tees! We couldn't be more thankful to New World Stonefields for purchasing these for us!!!! What a phenomenal impact these had on our kids, providing them with an immediate sense of belonging, pride and joy. Thank You New World!
Today we also farewelled our wonderful Shoba. After 30 years of teaching, we're excited for Shoba as she heads off travelling and spending more time with her beautiful grandchildren. We will miss you!!
I am absolutely delighted to share some wonderful news regarding our leadership team. Following a rigorous recruitment process that drew both internal and external interest, we have appointed Laura Choat as our new Associate Principal.
Laura started with us last year as the Year 0-2 Leader of Learning and since then has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to both our vision and driving learning gain through the junior teaching team.
Promoting from within is a key part of our commitment to growing our own and seeing Laura step into this significant leadership role is a proud moment for Stonefields School. Please join me in congratulating her on this well-deserved appointment!
With Laura moving into this Associate Principal position, we will now commence the appointment process for a Leader of Learning for the Junior Village
A huge thank you to everyone who took time out of your day to come see and experience your child's science learning this week. Year 3-4 shared their understanding of the scientific method and how they applied this through a range of hands-on investigations into Physical Phenomena. The Year 5-6 learners shared how they had been building their knowledge about magnets, light, ecosystems, propagation, and decomposition, and using the skills taugh in Literacy, to record their findings in a science booklet. And the Year 0-2's shared their exploration into light, colour, and shadows.
Are you ready for another great Stonefields School Book Week? A whole week to celebrate books, stories and reading!
We have got some fabulous authors lined up to come and speak to our learners, lots of games and competitions, the super exciting Scholastic Book Fair and the Whakamana Rocks Reading Challenge. And, of course, we can’t forget our book character dress up day! This year we’re going to do things slightly differently and each hub will have a theme for the dress up day, so watch out to find out what your theme will be after the holidays.
Let’s see which of our Whakamana Rocks can read the most books in one term!
Will it be Māhoe who seek challenges and will encourage each other to read every day?
Or will it be Tūhua who are self aware and know what they like to read and find new great books they will love?
Maybe it will be Reti, the creative thinkers who enjoy finding new ideas and perspectives in books?
Or perhaps it could be Punga Punga who are determined to read heaps of awesome books?
During the holidays and into Term 2 all our learners will be challenged to keep a record of all the books that they read themselves, or that someone reads to them, and every book counts towards the Whakamana Rocks Reading Challenge. Please help your kids fill in the reading log during the holidays.
The winners will be announced in Week 8, at the end of Book Week. Who will it be?
Here is the schedule for Term 2. We require three parent volunteers from the assigned Hub to help run the cafe for that day. Volunteers are only needed for one hour, 2.45pm to 3.45pm, on the Friday. Your Hub reps will also be in touch to request volunteers. Thanks for your support!
It's decided... drum roll please... the movie will be Minecraft!
Thanks for your votes.
Grab your blankets and beanbags for a family movie night. Everyone is welcome! Tickets are $5 available on Kindo.
If you'd like to help FOSS with organising this event, they'd love some extra hands. Please contact them via WhatsApp or email.
If you didn't see our announcement last week, we've got some big property projects starting over the school holidays. First up will be the drainage system around the field and some improvement work to the field itself. After this, the path and landscaping around the outdoor classroom will continue through term 2. If you are on-site, please be mindful of the work and the heavy machinery. Here are some ideas of how it could look.
As you're aware, the government is working on plans should there be a shortage of fuel. We wanted to firstly reassure you that we will be doing everything possible to remain open for in-person learning. You'll be happy to know that 90.5% of our learners live within walking distance, in either Stonefields, St Johns or Mt Wellington. We have also mapped where our staff all live and are creating car pooling plans where possible.
Over the holidays, you could also start to get prepared by:
planning with your neighbours to walk/bike or scooter to school
creating a car pooling roster with others living near you
These are great ways to get to school even if there isn't a shortage of fuel!
We have some Staff Only Days coming up later this year, school will be closed for learners on these days. Kelly Club will be open if you require childcare.
