To our families who celebrate Lunar New Year, Gong Xi Fa Cai!
We look forward to seeing you all tonight, Thursday 19 February, for the Meet the Teachers and Community Picnic. There will be sessions at 4.30pm and 5.30pm.
Our learners have been diving deep into their learning, with middle and senior learners completing a number of different assessments recently. This gives us a starting point for the year to then track progress against. Your child's teacher will share more about these at the Parent Connects in early March. Please see below to book your timeslot.
Our Intermediates are beginning to explore our local waterways and discover the biodiversity that exists in our wetland and in the oceans. We have partnered with the Mountains to Seas Conservation Trust to have hands-on experiences where we're examining water quality and learning about the importance of conservation efforts. Learners will be snorkelling at a local beach and at a marine reserve to compare the impact of conservation efforts and to explore life under the waves!
Ngā mihi nui,
Sarah and the team
See you tonight, Thursday 19 February, to meet your child's teachers, hear about hub routines and expectations, and learn how we can work in partnership with you for the best possible learning outcomes. Following this, we invite the entire community to join us for a picnic and get to know each other.
There are two time sessions available for each hub so you can visit multiple hubs. Each session will last 45 minutes:
Session 1 - 4.30pm - 5.15pm
Session 2 - 5.30pm - 6.15pm
Food Trucks will be on-site from 5.30pm for an easy dinner option.
The Year 3-8 teachers will be holding Parent Connects on Wednesday 4 March to Friday 6 March. This is an opportunity for parents to connect with the teacher to hear some noticings from the term so far and some early assessment information. It is also an opportunity to think about home learning opportunities that learners could do at home to further their learning and set targets for the year ahead.
The meetings will be 10 minutes. There will be an option for either an online meeting (video-conference) or in-person meeting. If you are having an in-person meeting, this will take place in your child's hub.
Year 3-4 - Wednesday 4 March
Year 5-6 Thursday 5 March
Year 7-8 - Friday 6 March
How to book:
To book a meeting, please go to School Interviews:
Enter your details, including if you would prefer an in-person or video-conference
Select the hub for each child
Select a timeslot for each child
You’ll notice each hub has two or three bookings available at each time slot, depending on the number of teachers in that hub. Please book your preferred time and the team will then allocate a hub teacher for your meeting.
You will receive a booking confirmation email from School Interviews confirming your booked timeslot. If you have booked a video-conference meeting, this booking confirmation email will include the Google Meet link for you to join at your booked timeslot.
If you need to make any changes to your bookings, please use the 'change or cancel your booking' link in that email.
Followuing your FLC, your next progress update Teachers will touch base with you through the beginning of March. This is an informal conversation; you won't need to book a timeslot for this.
Gong Xi Fa Cai! Thanks to all the whānau who came to celebrate Lunar New Year with us today. It was wonderful to be a part of your tradition.
Our Garden Club was also out in full swing planting new plants in celebration of the New Year.
A reminder that phones may be brought to school for Year 5-8 learners but MUST be placed in the hub's phone box at 8.30am and collected after 3pm.
We're noticing that kids are getting very distracted by Smart Watches during learning time. We have updated our Phone Policy to include smart watches with cellular and data functions. If your child's watch has cellular and data functions, please ensure these are turned off during school hours. If these functions are on during school hours, then it will be treated the same way as a phone. Learners will be asked to place them in the phone box and collect them at the end of the day. You can read our Phone & Smart Watch Policy here.
If you need to contact your child during the day, please call the office and we can get a message to them.

Thanks to everyone who's volunteered so far. We still have spaces to fill and would love help to ensure Friday Cafe continues to be enjoyed by all!
If a Hub/year level is unable to secure three volunteers for their week, sadly, Friday Cafe won't be able to run that week. Please get in touch with Kim in the office to confirm your support. Thanks!!
As you know, the roads surrounding our school are narrow. We need your support to keep our kids safe at busy times. During drop off and pick up times, we ask that everyone please drive anti-clockwise around the school to help ease congestion.
Even better, walk, bike or scooter to school
Speed Limit 30km

No Parking across the Vialou Lane road crossing
No parking in front of the No Parking sign on Guyon Street. This blocks the line of sight for our road patrol team

Please be kind to our Road Patrol team, they're there to keep your kids safe
We have lots of families who would love their children to join a Walking School Bus. Now we just need parents to help run these buses. If you could spare just one morning a week to support a Walking School Bus from the St Johns or Mt Wellington areas, we'd love to hear from you. Please contact the office.
Recently Police Constable Gordon visited our school and noticed that many of the bikes in the bike racks were not chained. He asked us to pass the message on that often bikes outside schools are a very easy target for theft and recommended that all bikes should be chained to the rail.
We'd also love to see all children wearing a helmet while riding a bike or scooter. Please remind your child of this important safety precaution.

Every Monday afternoon at 2:45pm is storytime for the preschoolers in our families. Come on up to the library to meet other kids and parents, have a little play, and listen to a story. We finish just before the bell goes so that you can be at the hub to pick your school aged kids up.
The library is up the stairs outside Hub 2.
