It’s been such a joy seeing our kura fill with life again. We’ve loved hearing the tamariki share stories of their summer adventures—from backyard campouts to beach days, it sounds like everyone made the most of the sunshine with their whānau. Also a massive Nau mai, haere mai to the 47 new learners, their families, and the new Kaiako joining us this week.
Our team are feeling energised! After a week of professional development together, the buzz among the staff is incredible. We’re feeling inspired and ready to make this year truly special for your children.
Thanks to your incredible fundraising efforts last year, the new play equipment is officially ready for action. If you have a moment, take a wander over to the field. You'll also see the latest addition to our kura, an Outdoor Classroom! This space will be used for collaborative problem solving and loose parts play. We will officially open this in the coming weeks.
We also have a dedicated Music Studio! This will be the new home for our school bands and the recording studio for the new school song we'll compose for this year’s production.
We have so many exciting things planned for this year, let's get into it! We look forward to seeing you all on Thursday 19 February at our Meet the Teachers and Community Picnic event.
Ngā mihi nui,
Sarah and the team
On Thursday 19 February, we're opening our doors for you to come and meet your child's Hub teaching team. Come along to meet the team, hear about hub routines and expectations, and learn how we can work in partnership with you for the best possible learning outcomes. Following this, we invite the entire community to join us for a picnic and get to know each other.
There are two time sessions available for each hub so you can visit multiple hubs. Each session will last 45 minutes:
Session 1 - 4.30pm - 5.15pm
Session 2 - 5.30pm - 6.15pm
Food Trucks will be on-site from 5.30pm for an easy dinner option.
This year our Whakamana Rocks will be in full gear. This will start with Whakamana Rock assemblies, electing Rock Leaders, forming chants, and a launch event later in the term.
The school has loads of groups and clubs available for your child to join. Here's a list of everything that's on offer for Term 1. For details on days and times, please contact the teacher in charge:

Sun hats are compulsory for all learners to wear when outside during Term 1. We have a strict No Hat, No Play policy. If your child doesn't have a hat, they will be required to stay in the shade of the buildings.
We have two school hats to choose from - Bucket Hat or School Cap:
Bucket Hats offer the best sun protection covering your child's whole face and the back of their neck.
School Caps are a great option for when playing sports.
Both options are available via Kindo. Once purchased, please collect from the school office.
As you can imagine with 650 learners, your child may need some support identifying their hat from the rest. As well as clearly naming it, it's a great idea to add something identifiable to the back - a button, motif, embroidery... anything that will help your child easily identify theirs.
Last year we introduced Friday Cafe being run by a different Hub each week. This is a great opportunity for parents to meet other parents from the same Hub as their child and get involved with supporting the school!
For Term 1, there will only be seven Friday Cafes due to public holidays. We have therefore assigned these to year levels. Each week we require only three helpers for one hour - 2.40pm to 3.40pm.
Please get in touch with Kim in the office to confirm your support. Thanks!!
We invite all whānau who celebrate Lunar New Year to join us for a celebratory shared morning tea on Thursday 19 February, 10.45am - 11.30am. We'd also love to hear from any whānau who'd like to share their traditions and experiences with our learners in their Hubs. Please contact Shoba Segar to discuss further.
In 2026, the government's target is that 80% of all students achieve an attendance rate of 90% or over. We know that school attendance is directly linked to the best possible learning outcomes. In Term 4 last year we dropped well below this expectation.
For Term 1 this year, our goal is to work in partnership with you to acheive 80%. This will be an increase on the 77% we achieved in Term 1 last year but we believe it's achievable!
Here is our Attendance Management Plan which outlines our policies and procedures for achieving this target.
We’re excited to be expanding our Thrive Speech and Drama Programme at Stonefields School this year!
Thrive gives children the opportunity to build confidence, communication, and creativity in a fun and supportive environment. Thrive is a programme based on speech and drama techniques, but evolved to be all about real world confidence and communication skills that benefit students in the classroom and beyond.
Through fun, creative activities, children learn to:
speak clearly and confidently
use expression and vocal variety
build teamwork and social skills
think on their feet
grow in confidence through public speaking, storytelling and improvisation
Our small group, 30 minute lessons run during the school day right here at school, making it easy for students to take part. Programme details:
30 minute lessons
small groups for maximum participation
lessons held at school during school time
$220 per guaranteed eight week term
free trial lesson available
Enrolments and expressions of interest here
New families are very welcome to book a free trial lesson
This gives children the chance to experience a Thrive class before committing for the term.

A reminder that devices purchased through The Manaiakalani Education Trust are the only devices we allow on our network. If your child's device is older than three years, it is outside of warrenty and we are no longer able to support it. We recommend purchasing a new one as it will likely no longer be fit for purpose. View all the details here and purchase here
As we start the new year, it's a great time to revisit our Kawa of Care. This is the agreement all learners and parents signed when their child received their Chromebook. These are a few key points we'd love your support with:
I will make the most of this opportunity to learn lots of new things and to share these with others. My Chromebook is for learning.
I will only use my school email account when using my Chromebook.
When I take my Chromebook home, I will bring it back to school everyday, charged and ready to use. My charger will remain at home.
If I choose to place stickers on my device, these will only be placed on the outside of the Chromebook or case. I will not place any stickers on the inside of the Chromebook, on keys, or the trackpad.
When Chromebooks are being carried, they must be inside the provided Chromebook carry case.
If you have any uniform items that you no longer require, and there is life left in them, please donate them to the school. Good quality items will then be sold as Pre-loved uniform, with the school gaining extra revenue which flows back to your children. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Scholastic Book Club orders for Issue no.1 2026 are now open. If you wish to make a purchase, please do so before orders close on Friday 20 March.
To place your order, please register using the LOOP website. You may then order via the website, or by using one of Scholastic's apps. Please select your child's hub (class), not their year level when placing your order. Please do not return anything to school as all orders are processed through the Scholastic LOOP system.
If you have any problems placing your order, please email sacha.lowe@stonefields.school.nz
Hubs open at 8.30am. We encourage learners to arrive at school between 8.30am to 8.45am, giving them time to unpack, play for a short time and settle into school before the 8.55am bell.
School finishes at 3pm. For safety reasons, children who are not picked up by 3.10pm need to go to the office to wait until their caregiver arrives.
If you need to drop your child at school earlier than 8.30am, or you will be collecting them after 3.10pm, please book them into care with Kelly Club.
Kindo is our online payment platform for all school payables including sun hats, lunches, book bags, trip fees and donations. If you have not yet created an account, please do so here using the email address you receive school communications.
Lunch orders are available every day. Simply order via your Kindo account up till 9am on the day and your order will be delivered directly to the school office in time for lunch. You can also order ahead for the entire Term. Download the Kindo App to make it that little bit easier.
There are also many other goodies available for purchase on Kindo including:
Beeswax food wraps and other sustainable products
Orders will be delivered to school
