Pre-ETS stands for Pre-Employment Transition Services.
Anyone who is a student between the ages of 14-22, enrolled in school, and has an IEP, 504 plan, or other proof of disability is eligible for Pre-ETS.
Pre-ETS instructors focus on teaching these five core services:
Career Counseling - exploring different career paths
Post-Secondary Education Counseling - assistance in preparing for and navigating college, trade school, Community Transitions, or other continuing education and training
Workplace Readiness Training - covers an array of soft-skills, such as time management, social skills, employer expectations, hygiene, interview skills, and much more
Work Experiences - temporary, short-term work opportunities to build the student’s resume and skills, and to explore different work settings and job tasks
Self-Advocacy - teaches about self-awareness, when to seek accommodations, when to disclose disability information, and how to do so with a sense of empowerment
Pre-ETS is NOT a job-placement service. We help students develop skills to seek employment independently or to seek out services that do provide job-placement during or after high school. We can, however, set up temporary work experiences that are sometimes paid work opportunities!
Pre-ETS can provide students with resources to handle challenges that may arise in the workplace, can assist students in weighing decisions such as seeking out better-paying work at a later date, and can also improve students’ skills in areas such as time and money management, which are useful in and out of the workplace.
Pre-ETS will aid the student in transition by helping the student set realistic goals with a clear pathway to achieve those goals. Students who enroll in post-secondary education after high school will continue to receive support from Pre-ETS through the age of 22 or until they are no longer a student. Students can also expect support in obtaining services through Vocational Rehabilitation as necessary prior to leaving.
There is no out-of-pocket costs to the student! The program is funded through The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.
