CASAS stands for "Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System".
The CASAS test measures basic skill and academic achievement in reading, listening, math, writing, and related areas. In the Adult Basic and Adult Secondary program the Reading and Math tests are used to determine placement.
Testing our students is one of the GRANT REQUIREMENTS our school must fulfill in order to be eligible for the funding dollars that keep your classes tuition free in the Adult Secondary Education program.
"The California Department of Education (CDE), requires all eligible adult literacy program providers to use the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS) standardized assessment instruments, and Tracking of Programs and Students Enterprise data collection and reporting software to report educational gain benchmarks by educational functioning levels." (taken from the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, Title II: Adult Education and Family Literacy Act).
Students enrolled in classes that require the CASAS test must:
Take both a PRETEST AND A POSTTEST at a minimum.
If possible, students will test until they are able to achieve an Educational Functioning Level (EFL) gain.
Students will NOT BE ENROLLED without a CASAS pretest.
Students who fail to schedule a CASAS posttest in a timely manner will be subject to having their COURSE DISABLED until a posttest can be obtained.
