"Working together for the good of all"
At St Michael’s CE Primary, we recognise the importance of science in every aspect of daily life. The scientific area of learning is concerned with increasing pupils’ knowledge and understanding of our world, and with developing skills associated with science as a process of enquiry.
It develops the natural curiosity of the child, encourages respect for living organisms and the physical environment. We are committed to providing a stimulating, challenging and engaging learning environment; this can be seen from our fantastic school sensory garden space, outdoor garden and growing areas, as well as our covered outdoor classroom.
We have created a curriculum that systematically develops working scientifically skills, including questions, research and observations, which are built-on and developed throughout children’s time at school.
Our aim is for our pupils to be able to apply their knowledge of science when using equipment, conducting experiments and investigation, building arguments and explaining concepts confidently, being familiar with scientific terminology and, most importantly, to continue to ask questions and be curious about their surroundings.
Our intent is to develop inquisitive, budding scientists, who can use their scientific knowledge to make informed predictions and test their own hypotheses.
OUR OUTDOOR SPACES
We are incredibly fortunate to have some wonderful outdoor learning spaces at St Michael's.
Our Sensory Garden offer a place for our pupils to explore sounds, scents and textures.
Within this space we also have our very own St Michael's growing garden, where pupils plant seeds, fruit and vegetables. Our Woodland and KS1 wellbeing garden is a fabulous place to learn and play. Our pupils use this area to observe seasonal changes through the changing plants and learn about living things, habitats and ecosystems in these areas.
We also have our outdoor classroom - so we can carry on learning ‘in the great outdoors’ even if the weather is wet.
