"Working together for the good of all"
At ST Michael’s CE Primary we aim to inspire all pupils and create curiosity and fascination about the world we live in. Our children start their geography learning journey in EYFS where they are guided to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.
As children move through the school, they develop their geographical skills and are encouraged to ask questions through our enquiry based approach, where they can think critically and develop their own sense of perspective of the world.
Our curriculum is sequenced to allow for progression from one year to the next, building on pupils’ learning from the previous year that deepen pupils’ knowledge and understanding. This is fostered through an enquiry-based approach that encourages pupils to develop their independence and creativity as they explore and reflect on the world around them.
Through the teaching of geography, children learn about their own lives and local area, comparing these with other regions in the UK and across the world. As they progress, they develop an understanding of the key human and physical features and processes that shape our planet, deepening their knowledge of the Earth, how it is interconnected, and how it has changed over time.
