As new members of our school community, we welcome you to worth in partnership with us throughout your child's journey at St Thomas More Primary.
The role of a school in education has, like everything, evolved over time, and is dramatically different to the ways in which they previously supported and prepared children for their future.
As a school, we now have to respond to the dynamic and ever changing landscape and support out children to be active and informed citizens who engage with their world.
This video below was created with a St Thomas More Hadfield student, based on the work of Australian Educator and Researcher, Professor Hedley Beare. 'The Future Child' invites us to consider the role of education in modern day society, and how schools has needed to evolve to accomodate changing needs and provide our children with the best possible platform to achieve their potential. The whole child, for now and their future.
Please view the video below.
At St Thomas More Primary, our passionate leadership team work closely with our staff to support them in a range of curriculum areas. This team plan with teachers in their year level teams, and use formative data to plan for the needs of individual children. We utilise the Victorian Curriculum to ensure scope of learning, and draw on other resources including the Child Safety Standards, Respectful Relationships Curriculum and Catholic Education support materials to ensure that we plan for rich, relevant, rigorous and rewarding learning opportunities for our children.

At St Thomas More our children participate in the specialist subjects in the areas of:
Music
Drama
PE
Italian
Art
Each week, our children have two hours of specialist classes, plus one hour of additional physical education with a specialist teacher. The classes work on a semester timetable. In each semester, the children participate in two of the above specialist classes, plus physical education. This ensures that the children and teacher are able to experience the best possible depth of education within these learning. You will be informed of your child's specialist class day in 2022.
In normal circumstances, our school also offers private lessons in guitar, piano, drums and singing. Further information will be forwarded next year.
To view a sample of specialist learning, we welcome you to view the section at the bottom of the current 'learning in lockdown' newsletter by clicking on the image below.
At St Thomas More we use the app SeeSaw to ensure our parents are connected to their child's learning progress at St Thomas More. This app provide a vital link between home and school and allows our parents to witness their child's growth as it happens. Seesaw is a formal part of our reporting program. Teachers will share a variety of learning snapshots with you on a weekly basis. Parents are encouraged to give feedback to your child focussing on their strengths ( WWW- What is working well) and areas of improvement (EBI - Even better if).
In addition to this, parents receive a formal online report outlining your child's growth in comparison to the Victorian Standards of Achievement outlined in the Victorian Curriculum. This report is formulated twice yearly in June and December. Parents also participate in Parent / Teacher Conferences in June, and are more than welcome to organise appointments with their child's teacher throughout the year. Kate Korber will provide new parents with an information session to explain these reports in June next year.
Please see the following video that outlines the benefits of Seesaw.
