Term 6 - Athletics
Today we had the first lesson of our new unit. We practiced our sprinting technique in a few games and also did some great partner/ team work too. In teams we made 'trains' and had to travel through as many stations as possible, with the leader changing whenever the whistle blew. We also worked in partners to race to different markers, and even tried to catch each other in the races. We all had a lot of fun and it was a great warm up for sport day!
This term, our inspirational sports person is Kelly Holmes. We spoke about her being a middle distance runner, and thought about all the ways that she is inspirational. We designed medals, and wrote on them all the things she did that made her such a great athlete. We spoke about how she had a 'game plan', how she didn't compare herself to others too much and how she made sure she paced herself so as to not get too tired too fast.
I then noticed at lunchtime that some children had been inspired by Kelly Holmes and were practicing their distance running!
Term 4 - Games (2)
In this lesson we practiced a few skills using tennis balls. We talked about our control, balance and reflexes- some of the activities were a bit tricky at first but everyone showed great determination and kept going. Well done Year 2!
Term 4 - Shape session
Term 4 - Games (2)
In this lesson, we spoke about using the inside, outside and sole of our foot to control a ball. We practiced kicking our balls to each other and we spoke about how hard to kick the ball to make sure it got to where we needed it to. We then practiced dribbling the balls through cones whilst staying in control - this was very tricky!
Term 3 - Gymnastics
In our PE lessons we have been practicing and perfecting different gymnastics moves such as pike, straddle and tuck. We worked in partners to create a sequence using these moves and showed them to the rest of the class.
Term 1 - Games
Lesson 2 - Control
This week we focused on controlling a ball with different parts of our body, and thinking about what muscles we need to use to make sure we had maximum control.
Inspirational sports person - Greg Rutherford
Our inspirational sports person for term 1 is Greg Rutherford. We thought about how talented he is and how we can be inspired by him. We practiced some basic running and jumping in preparation for our PE lessons this topic.
