Athletics
The children practised each event ready for Sports Day selection during our athletics PE lessons. We also learnt how to perform a triple jump correctly, as lots of children found the initial hop from one leg tricky to master at first. The children quickly picked up the correct technique and even progressed to a running start!Â
SHAPE Physical Activity sessionÂ
The children enjoyed working on their team-building and communication skills during a physical activity session with SHAPE. Combining skills from other games, the children were required to build and defend a house from the opposing team who aimed to know the house down using dodge balls.Â
RoundersÂ
Our rounders unit focuses on throwing, catching and striking a ball consistently as well as fielding. Children will have the opportunity to demonstrate the key rule in rounders and compete successfully as a team. In our first lesson, we completed our 'long throw' personal best activity and developed our accuracy and technique for throwing underarm.Â
GymnasticsÂ
In our Gymnastics unit of work, the children explored balances, rolls on/off apparatus and practiced incorporating stands into unison performances. The children learnt to include a clear beginning (entrance), middle and end (exit) into their routines and they focused on different (creative) methods of travelling, transitions between sequences (shapes), fluidity, precision and control.
The children have been maneuvering across the environment and apparatus creatively using parkour- style dance movements to develop their balance, coordination and strength.Â
Dance- Street ArtÂ
We have started our next PE topic which the children loved last week! We completed our personal best activity of bunny hops along the bench to see how many laps the children could complete in 1 minute. We will repeat this activity at the end of the unit so the children can compare their scores to improve their personal best. For our first lesson, we looked at performing our own artist's 'tag' which was spray painted in the air and explored different ways of performing this in a canon.
For our last PE lesson of Basketball, the children put their skills together to play competitively in some mini matches! It was great to see the children working together with their team, communicating effectively, showing great sportsmanship and displaying high levels of resilience!
The children were worked hard in our last PE lesson learning to defend and mark an opponent. Lots of children were able to successfully intcercept and steal the ball from the opposite team!
We have developed our shooting skills further by pratising dribbling and shooting. We saw a competitive side to the class during a game of 'Knock Out!' to finish the lesson with lots of children supporting others in their team to score the winning basket!
Basketball
The children have loved their first few lessons of basketball! We have completed our personal best challenge and recorded how many laps dribbling the ball they were able to complete in 1 minute. We will repeat this at the end of the unit so the children can measure their level of personal progress. We have already practiced two types of pass: chest and bounce pass; dribbling the ball and shooting. We definitely have some children destined to become the new Michael Jordan- who is our inspirational sportsperson for this topic!Â
