The school day

Boys arrive before 08:45, and go to their first class when the bell rings. Each student is assigned a locker. There are nine classes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, 8.50 - 3.30. Wednesday's have six classes, ending at 1.00.

The boys from First - Fourth Year are given a “Yondr” pouch to lock their phone in during the school day. If students need to contact home during the school day they can use the phone in the Dean’s office or the front office. Likewise, any messages that need to be passed on to the boys can be done through Pauline in the front office.

From First - Third Year, core subjects are Irish, English, Maths, History, Geography, Business, Science, Physical Education, Religion, French, and German.

All students do French & German in First Year. At the end of First Year, there is the option to study one, or both.

Classics, Music, Technology and Art are studies for one quarter of the year each. At the end of First Year, boys choose one of these options for Junior Cert, or else opt for the second continental language.

Classes at Junior cycle are mixed ability, sorted alphabetically, with 25 in each class.

All boys do Higher Level Irish and Maths and move to an Ordinary Level class as necessary (typically above 90% do honours in Junior Cycle).

In First Year, boys with Irish exemptions receive non-exam Irish language, culture and customs lessons at an appropriate level in the Irish slot

Everybody does 400 hours of taught Wellbeing classes, over the three years of Junior Cycle. In First Year, this includes classes of yoga, mindfulness and guidance. Yoga and mindfulness are continued in Second Year, and taken again in Fourth and Fifth Year.

After school: First - Sixth Years have the option of rugby, basketball or badminton in the winter terms. Rugby is played on the front pitch in Rathmines and in Kenilworth Square. Badminton and basketball are in the Fr Barry Hall. Debating and Games Club are the other options. 

Every October we put on a musical the girls in St Louis' High School, and in December, a student-produced-and-directed play.

Everybody does Transition Year. Extra subjects and modules include First Aid, soccer coaching, GAA, gym, skiing, climbing, drama, art, careers.

Fifth and Sixth Year core subjects are Irish, English, Maths, French or German, Religion, Physical Education. Options include Applied Maths, Classics, Music, Art, Technology, History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology; Business, Economics, Leaving Cert Religion, Leaving Cert PE, and Accounting. Classes in the options subjects vary in size from five students to mid-twenties.
