For this task, students will present an individual presentation based on one of the following themes:
Wales
Leisure
The World of Work
The World of Science/ Technology
Citizenship
Students can choose any aspects of these topics, as long as it has a persuasive bent to truly engage with the audience. Some previous topics include:
Brexit
Work experience
Vegetarianism
Space travel
Animal testing
Social media
Presentations are expected to last between five to seven minutes, including questions from the audience.
Your teacher will use this criteria to assess your presentation:
Tips:
Write a question or a statement as your title so you have something to argue for or against.
Don't use PowerPoints as this often leads to the presenter reading off the slides.
Avoid using a script. Use flashcards with brief bullet point notes to ensure you make eye contact with your audience.
Conduct as much research about your topic as possible. Remember, the purpose of the presentation is to demonstrate your research on a certain topic.
Explore a variety of research sources, for example search the web; reading newspapers / magazines / reference books / leaflets; listening to television programmes and asking relevant people.
Read your speech in the mirror. This might sound embarrassing, but it does help you understand the important of effective delivery.
Record yourself at home and watch back, looking for successes and targets.
