Choosing an option
Look at all your options before you make a decision.
If you have a firm career idea, choose subjects that you will need for the next stage of your career journey – the ones you need to go into further or higher education or into an apprenticeship or job with training.
If you don’t have a firm career idea, choose subjects that will allow you to keep your options open.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help and advice from your teachers, Head of Year, careers adviser and others.
Hot tip
Your choices don’t have to be job related. It’s fine to choose some subjects simply because you enjoy or are good at them. Very few of the choices you make now will stop you from changing direction at the end of Year 11.
Do choose a course because
you are good at and think you will enjoy the subject
it links to a career idea
it will go well with your other choices
it will help you develop knowledge and skills that interest you
it will keep your options open in the future
you think that you might want to continue studying it after Year 11
your research shows that it will interest you and motivate you to learn.

Here is a link to Unifrog. This is a careers website that students can login to and investigate what careers may suit them and what qualifications may be needed. Students have already registered and started to explore this in their Life lessons in tutor time.
Do not choose a course because:
your friends have chosen it
you think it will be easy
you think it is a good course for a boy/ girl to do
someone else thinks that it is a good idea
you like the teacher you have now
you didn’t have time to research your options properly.
