Tonal Matching
This drawing exercise requires students to use a range of graded graphite pencils in order to match the tonal variations of a black and white photograph. In this instance the students were also challenged to maintain a physical likeness.

As part of the VCD drawing course in Unit 1 - students are required to hone their observational skills and study the surface texture of a particular animal. From their studies they then produce a final drawing in fineliner that not only carefully depicts the animals covering but also the effects of light and shadow.
