When we play sports, we need physical skills. Here are eight words that are aspects of these skills:
Look them up and discuss how you would use them in basketball.
Agility
Balance
Reaction time
Coordination
Speed
Power
Watch this Spiderman video clip and describe the basketball sequence. Use the words you have learnt.
Now it is your turn to pick basketball video clips that would illustrate these terms:
Muscular strength
Stamina
Flexibility
Cardiovascular/respiratory endurance
Remember to write at least 3/4 sentences about why you chose the clip. Use the example below as a model for your own writing:
I chose this video clip because it talks about the importance of training muscular strength, stamina, flexibility and cardiovascular/respiratory endurance to prevent injuries in a basketball game. The video gives specific exercises to do before the game to build these skills.
When we write paragraphs, we need to include general and specific information. Use the past tense. For example,
In the game of basketball the Interpersonal Skill I used was effective communication. I did this by giving a demonstration to a team member who did not understand what to do and to help him improve his technique. For example, yesterday I showed RH how to bounce the basketball to have more control. After bouncing up and down the court four times, I also taught him how to shoot. I said, "Try to get the ball to lightly hit the rectangle on the backboard and it should go into the basket straight away." This encouraged RH to dribble the ball more in the friendly match and try for goal.
Another example of effective communication was when I helped, encouraged and suggested what to do during a game. Some suggestions I gave were, "spread out, JS, IN is free now on your left" and "stand there to catch the ball from RH". My suggestions helped the members who have had less experience to know what to do and where to go. It contributed to the team as a whole so that they knew which player is free to receive the ball and use the best tactic. I also tried to warn the team about strong players from the other team. I said, "Look out for FG on your right and block her from receiving the ball." Because of good communication, we were more successful getting the ball down the court, scoring and were a good team.
