When we secure the rights of persons with disabilities, we move our world closer to upholding the core values and principles of the United Nations Charter. The United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy provides the foundation for sustainable and transformative progress on disability inclusion through all pillars of the work of the United Nations: peace and security, human rights, and development.
Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December — the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The UDHR is a milestone document, which proclaims the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Available in more than 500 languages, it is the most translated document in the world.

Unity Day, the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month, has been recognized in the United States since 2011. To participate in Unity Day, individuals, schools, communities, and businesses wear or share orange to unite for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to prevent students being bullied.
Here are a few of the ways we celebrated & raised awareness:
UPTO covered the halls in orange post-it notes with positive messages about kindness.
Tuesday advisories included interactive lessons about anti-bullying (like an escape room, a games show, and practice being upstanders).
Bulletin boards around the building with messages and strategies to combat bullying and promote kindness.
Resources to address bullying in grade level google classrooms that will continue to be available.
Music at lunch with a chance to sign a wall size poster if you pledge not to bully and a raffle for orange shirts in honor of Dave Leonard & 'all means all'. (To be in the raffle students were nominated by peers for being kind/ doing positive things for others; shirts are still available for $10)
Therapy dog (Holly) visit with her handler & former teacher, Michelle Vukorpa
